As part of a long-term project, I’ve drafted a preliminary definition of “legal information.” For now, it’s limited to common law jurisdictions. The discussion begins by setting out nine criteria of a useful definition, and then proposes a definition intended to be consistent with those criteria. Examples come next. Eventually, I’d like to revise the definition to cover civil law and mixed civil law/common law jurisdictions. Comments and suggestions (on the criteria, definition, or examples) are most welcome.
