At the VoxPopuLII Blog, Prashant Iyengar, Esq., of Columbia University and Alternative Law Forum, has just published Confessions of a Legal Info-holic. The post describes the creation of OpenJudis, which offers free access to case law of India. The post provides an overview of online legal publishing in India, and a detailed description of the technology used to build the OpenJudis system.
The post also describes Indian Kanoon, a service that provides free access to Indian statutes, case law, administrative decisions, and law review articles. Indian Kanoon was created by Sushant Sinha of the University of Michigan Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Iyengar’s post will be of particular interest to legal information systems developers and administrators, and scholars interested in legal information markets in South Asia.
