Settlement in Public.Resource.Org suit regarding copyright in standards incorporated into law

The parties have settled in Public.Resource.Org’s suit against Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACCNA), regarding SMACCNA’s copyright in four standards that have been incorporated by reference into the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations and some state statutes and regulations, according to a post at EFF.

According to the stipulation agreed in connection with the settlement, SMACCNA declined to “make any future assertion or representation that it claims any copyright interest in the” standards at issue in the case.
